After hosting styled shoots for over seven years, there are plenty of things I’ve learned that have worked well and have been things to avoid. Step #1: Brainstorm a Concept Design

Any great idea starts with a brainstorm. It’s easy to want to jump the gun and get started on the details before really thinking about the bigger picture. Remember form last week, though, this styled shoot you’re hosting is a strategic move. It’s goal is to help you make connections, get creative and build your portfolio. More on that in last week’s episode. So get your thinking cap on, and start the brainstorm!

Step #2: Create a Mood Board

I design mine simply on Canva Pro, using inspirational images from Pinterest. Don’t skip this step! It’s so important to have clear communications with your vendors during this process. Before you ever reach out to anyone, you need to be clear on your own expectations of this shoot. If your vendor does not have the proper vision for the shoot, they will be confused and potentially not meet your expectations. Creat e your mood board with inspiration photos and colors ASAP!

Step #3: Just Ask!

Get comfortable with rejection. This singlehandedly has transformed my business. When you really think about it, the worst a vendor could say is ,”NO!” to your idea. And would that really be so bad? I think the biggest obstacle I see standing between a photographer and hosting a styled shoot is insecurity. Getting what you want all starts with asking. Try it today!
