The Exposure Triangle

In today’s episode, we’re discussing the three most important keys on the exposure triangle. When working in manual mode, these are the three settings I manipulate the most.

• Aperture: This is how big the opening on your camera is to let light in. This setting is denoted as “f” and then a number (ex. “f2.8”). The lower the number, the wider the opening and softer background. A higher number means smaller opening a more consistently in focus image throughout.

• Shutter Speed: This is telling me how fast the shutter is opening and closing. Higher number means faster shutter. Never want to make this number too low, otherwise you’ll get blurry images!

• ISO: This is the light sensitivity of your camera’s sensor. Higher numbers mean more sensitive. But go too high, and your image will get grainy or noisy!
