There are few moments in life as exciting and nerve-wracking as planning a surprise proposal! Between keeping the secret, choosing the perfect location, and hoping everything goes according to plan, you’re filled with anticipation. For Liam, all of that planning led to one unforgettable afternoon at Hampton Park. A sweet place tucked away in Charleston, South Carolina is where he asked Kat to spend forever with him. Clare and I were so honored to be able to witness and capture every second as their Charleston proposal photographer.

When couples ask me for Charleston proposal ideas, Hampton Park is always at the top of my list.
Tucked away on the Charleston peninsula, Hampton Park offers a quieter, more intimate atmosphere than some of Charleston’s more tourist-heavy locations. With its sprawling oak trees, winding pathways, seasonal blooms, and picturesque gardens, it feels romantic without being overly crowded.
For Liam, it was the perfect setting.
The afternoon was warm, the park was glowing with soft light filtering through the trees, and everything felt calm and effortless.
As Kat and Liam walked through Hampton Park, she had no idea what was about to happen. The two walked hand in hand, enjoying the scenery and conversation, and past Clare and I while we cleverly acted as though we were capturing headshots for each other. Liam carefully guided her toward the spot we’d planned ahead of time.
Then came the moment where Liam dropped to one knee, and Kat’s hand clasped over her mouth.
The shock on Kat’s face quickly turned into joyful tears, laughter, and the biggest smile. Those first few seconds after a proposal are always my favorite because they’re completely unscripted. There’s no posing, no direction. It’s just 100% genuine emotion.

As if the surprise proposal itself wasn’t memorable enough, Liam had one more surprise waiting for Kat.
After their proposal at Hampton Park, the celebration continued at STARS Rooftop & Grill Room, where their closest friends and family had gathered to celebrate the newly engaged couple.
As they arrived at the rooftop, Kat was met with another wave of emotions as she realized her loved ones had traveled and planned behind the scenes to be part of this milestone. The hugs, happy tears, laughter, and excitement made for some of the most meaningful photographs of the day.
One of the highlights of the evening was capturing aerial drone photographs of the celebration. From above, the rooftop party came to life in a completely different way, showcasing not only the energy of the gathering but also the incredible Charleston views that surrounded it. These drone images added a unique perspective to the gallery and helped tell the full story of the day.

If you’re thinking about proposing in Charleston, Hampton Park is one of the most beautiful and romantic locations in the city. Whether you’re local to the area or planning a destination proposal, having a photographer involved in the planning process is so important to help ensure everything goes smoothly.
